The Entrepreneurship Program
One way in which HKUST can achieve the second element of its mission, namely "to assist in the economic development of Hong Kong", is by stimulating and assisting entrepreneurship.
HKUST established its Entrepreneurship Program and dedicated space to an incubation facility in 1999. This Program, managed by RDC, aims to help members of the University community to start-up technology-based companies. The University takes a 3% share of equity in companies accepted into the Entrepreneurship Program. Such equity is held by RDC on behalf of the University.
Start-up companies are provided with serviced and furnished space at modest cost, with access to University facilities and resources and to an Advisory Committee which provides assistance with business development.
RDC also manages a HK$10 million Venture Capital Fund. Start-up companies may seek seed funding to advance their business development. RDC is actively seeking financial partners to co-invest in start-up companies. |
